It isn’t held back by the Warhammer World trappings the way 2nd is. 2nd arguably has the better system, but I honestly haven’t found it to really be much better in practice. 4th Edition has some problems.

It was very obvious to my group, at the time, that they had been included so the box could claim that Warhammer was one of those cool new RPGs as well as a mass combat game. We took the mass combat rules and honestly didn't give volume 3 a second glance.

(I am also amused by the mass combat rules for this spin off for a mass combat game. I mean, I understand why, but it still makes me chuckle)
