WEDNESDAY, Nov. 6, 2024 (HealthDay News) -- In election results that showed protecting women's reproductive freedoms matter to a majority of Americans, abortion rights measures passed in seven states and failed in three.

Voters in 10 states are deciding whether to put protections for reproductive rights into their state constitutions.

Voters in Missouri cleared the way to undo one of the nation's most restrictive abortion bans in one of four victories for abortion rights advocates, while Florida and South Dakota defeated similar constitutional amendments, leaving bans in place.

Florida’s voters were asked whether the state’s constitution should say that “no law shall prohibit, penalize, delay, or restrict abortion before viability or when necessary to protect the patient’s health, as determined by the patient’s healthcare provider.”

With voters declining to enshrine a right to abortion in the State Constitution, South Dakota will continue to have one of the strictest abortion bans in the country.
