An Atlanta police officer was shot and killed outside a Douglas County home during what investigators say was an apparent early-morning break-in attempt.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, officers responded to the scene at 1040 Huff Rd NW around 12:17 a.m., where reports came in stating someone was shot.

A gunman is on the run after police say he shot and killed a man after he was caught breaking into the victim's vehicle.

According to police, officers responded to the 500 block of Magnolia Street NW in Atlanta's Vine City neighborhood. When they arrived, they found a man with an apparent gunshot wound. Police said he was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is currently unknown.
