A new police chief was sworn in to lead the Horry County Police Department on Thursday, Oct. 3 in downtown Conway, SC.

Horry County Police Deputy Chief Kris Leonhardt, who has worked for the department since 2002, will replace Chief HCPD Joseph Hill, who will retire on Oct. 4.

Longtime Horry County Police Department member Kris Leonhardt will serve as the agency’s next chief, officials announced Tuesday. Leonhardt joined the county police force in 2002 as part of its patrol division before moving through various units.
