Authorities say a man suspected of hijacking a city bus in Los Angeles has been charged with murder, kidnapping, and numerous other offenses.

One person is dead after a gunman hijacked a Los Angeles city bus overnight, leading police in a pursuit for more than an hour before the suspect was taken into custody.

The man killed when an LA Metro bus was hijacked this week has been identified by Los Angeles police. Anthony Rivera was a 48-year-old resident of LA.

September 28, 2024 – Vermont Vista, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that South Bureau Homicide detectives are investigating a hijacking and homicide incident involving a Metro bus. During the hijacking, the suspect shot a victim who was riding on the bus with a semi-automatic handgun.

The bus was taken over by a gunman early Wednesday while several passengers were on board, the police said. A suspect was taken into custody.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón Announces Charges Against Man in September 25 Metro Bus Hijacking, Murder of Passenger in L.A.

Prosecutors filed murder, kidnapping, robbery, and carjacking charges Monday against the man suspected of hijacking an LA Metro bus last week, murdering a passenger, and leading police on an hour-long chase through downtown Los Angeles.

The Los Angeles District Attorney announced charges against the man who allegedly killed a passenger while hijacking a Metro bus last week.

Lamont Campbell, 51, was wheeled into a downtown courtroom Tuesday strapped into a safety chair. He remains jailed in lieu of more than $5.5 million bail.
