NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A Nashville mogul and former mayoral candidate, Bill Freeman, has died, according to officials.

William H. “Bill” Freeman, a titan of Nashville’s business community, former mayoral candidate and a leading fundraiser for the Democratic Party, died Sunday night at the age of 73. The cause of death was suicide.

According his son Bob Freeman, Freeman died Sunday night. He was 73. Freeman — a longtime supporter of local journalism and a candidate for mayor in 2015 — teamed with friend and business partner Jimmy Webb to purchase the Scene and sister publications Nashville Post and Nfocus in 2018 via FW Publishing. Webb died in 2019.
