Tropical cyclone Ofel (international name: Usagi) weakened into a tropical depression and was about to make landfall in Southern Taiwan on Saturday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.

At its peak, Ofel was a super typhoon with maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h, reaching this category early Thursday morning, November 14. But hours later, it was downgraded to a typhoon, before it made landfall in Baggao, Cagayan, at 1:30 pm that day.

Pepito (Man-Yi) reached typhoon strength following “rapid intensification,” while Ofel (Usagi) weakened into a severe tropical storm on Friday morning, PAGASA reported.

Severe Tropical Storm Pepito intensified into a typhoon on Friday morning ahead of its expected landfall, according to state weather bureau PAGASA. Meanwhile, PAGASA said Typhoon Ofel weakened into a severe tropical storm.
