MOBILE, Ala. ( WALA) - Shomari Figures claimed victory Tuesday night, in the race for Alabama’s newly drawn second congressional district. Figures, who went up against Republican Caroleene Dobson, earned 54% of the vote, with the majority coming out of Mobile.

Shomari Figures, the Black Democrat running in an Alabama congressional district redrawn last year by a court order, has won the seat over Republican Caroleene Dobson, NBC News projects.

Shomari Figures became just the fourth Black representative from Alabama since Reconstruction with his win on Nov. 5.

Republican candidate Caroleene Dobson conceded Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District race to Democrat Shomari Figures shortly before 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Associated Press called the race for Figures shortly before 11 p.

As of 10:25 pm, with sixty of Alabama’s sixty seven counties reporting their vote tallies, NBC News is projecting that Democrat Shomari Figures has won the State’s newly redrawn Congressional District two.
