College students in Alabama and elsewhere have been receiving troubling racist texts on their phones. The texts seemed to have all started Wednesday morning and spread. The mother of a University of Alabama student says her daughter received the text Wednesday and mentioned words like ‘cotton planation’ and ‘executive slaves will come and get you.

"It feels very much like a regression period," one student said. "Two steps forward, 10 steps backward, is what comes to mind."
