A fast-moving brush fire in the Somis/Camarillo area of Ventura County has destroyed at least a dozen homes and, according to officials, charred at least 10,500 acres as of Wednesday afternoon. The Mountain Fire was reported just before 9 a.

Dozens of homes have been destroyed in Ventura County near Camarillo and Camarillo Heights. The Mountain Fire has burned more than 10,400 acres. Mandatory evacuations are in effect in Somis and Camarillo Heights.

A wildfire started in the Somis area on Wednesday morning and tore through 22 square miles by the evening, destroying dozens of homes, sending residents to the hospital and forcing evacuations in Ventura, Camarillo, Santa Paula, Fillmore and points in between.
