A trio of marijuana decriminalization measures cruised to victory at the municipal level in Texas on Tuesday night, in the cities of Dallas, Bastrop and Lockhart, where all of the ballot questions won with more than 60% support.

Dallas, Lockhart, and Bastrop residents will soon vote on local marijuana decriminalization, reflecting shifting attitudes in Texas.

Voters in Dallas have passed a proposition that would decriminalize possession of four ounces or less of marijuana.

The cities join a growing list of Texas jurisdictions deprioritizing arrests for four ounces or less of marijuana possession.

Proposition R would ban the Dallas Police Department from making arrests or issuing citations for people with four ounces or less of marijuana except as part of larger felony investigations. It would also prohibit the smell of marijuana being used as probable cause for searches or seizures.

Voters in Lockhart have decided to de-prioritize arrests and prosecution of misdemeanor marijuana possession offenses by voting for Proposition A.

Dallas voters have decided to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana, making the city one of the largest in the country to do so.
