New York State Police are at the home of Trooper Thomas Mascia, who was shot last week on Long Island's Southern State Parkway.

New York State Police suspended a trooper without pay Monday after launching an investigation into his account of being shot and wounded while attempting to help a motorist on a Long Island highway last week.

On October 30, at about 11:45 p.m., a shooting occurred on the Southern State Parkway westbound in the area of Exit 17, West Hempstead Nassau County, between a New York State Trooper and suspect who fled the scene. The Trooper was wounded and is currently in stable condition at a local hospital and the investigation is ongoing.

An all-out manhunt is underway after a New York State Police trooper was shot by a driver on the Southern State Parkway.

The trooper, Thomas Mascia, 27, was suspended without pay this week, New York State Police Major Stephen Udice said at a press briefing on Wednesday. He said the agency was conducting both criminal and internal investigations into the circumstances of the shooting that Mascia reported as happening around 11:45 p.m. last Wednesday.
