BEDFORD PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- After years of having to share their practice facility at the Sachs Recreation Center in Deerfield, the Chicago Sky will soon have their own new facility.

The WNBA franchise decided to move on from its head coach on Thursday night after just one season at the helm in Chicago, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The Chicago Sky fired head coach Teresa Weatherspoon after one season, the Chicago Sun-Times reported on Thursday night, marking the second dismissal of a seemingly well-respected head coach in the WNBA this week.

The Sky hired Weatherspoon as the franchise’s next head coach on Oct. 12, 2023, after spending four seasons with the New Orleans Pelicans as an assistant.

The Chicago Sky broke ground on a much-needed new practice facility on Wednesday, and during the ceremony, general manager Jeff Pagliocca spoke briefly to reporters. He discussed a few topics, most notably the decision to fire Teresa Weatherspoon after just one season and the organization's relationship with star rookie Angel Reese.

Chicago Sky leadership wanted to focus on the long term Wednesday as the team broke ground on construction of a new training facility in Bedford Park. The facility will cost more than $30 million, the Sky’s latest investment in staying competitive in a new era of the WNBA.
