Starfield is a completely new domain for Bethesda, being their first original IP introduced in a couple of decades now. While the reception to the game was underwhelming at first, the community has kept Starfield alive, with many relying on mods to make the most of the space-exploring AAA title.

Shattered Space may also serve as a bellwether for how much Bethesda wants to keep investing in Starfield given pressure from Microsoft to deliver more games more quickly
