NEW YORK — New York City politicians are calling on Whoopi Goldberg to apologize for suggesting on air that a local bakery had declined to make “The View” co-host a batch of desserts for her birthday because of her political beliefs.

Staten Island politicians joined the owner of Holtermann’s Bakery to accuse Whoopi Goldberg of defaming the family-owned business.

Goldberg claims that the bakery she wanted the birthday dessert from initially refused her order due to her “left-leaning” political views. In a recent episode, Goldberg had this to say about the incident. “Now, I should tell you, Charlotte Russe has no political leanings, and the place that made these refused to make them for me,” Goldberg said.

The left-leaning host of “The View” said the business in a Republican stronghold declined to take an order under her name. The bakery said politics had nothing to do with it.
