Gateway Church has removed four of its elders after an internal investigation into its former pastor’s abuse of a child showed they had information about the issue and did nothing.

Gateway Church in the Dallas-Fort Worth area launched an internal investigation after pastor Robert Morris resigned this year when he was accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl in the 1980s.

The removals are latest fallout at one of the country’s largest evangelical Christian churches from allegations made in June against Gateway's founding pastor, Robert Morris.

Gateway Church elder Tra Willbanks took to the pulpit to share a summary of the findings from law firm Haynes and Boone LLP. The firm was hired by the church in June, following the resignation of Gateway’s founder and then-senior pastor Robert Morris.
