Trooper Thomas Mascia, who claimed he was shot while assisting a stranded driver, is now suspended without pay, with his badge and duty weapons confiscated.
New York State Police say the trooper was shot on the westbound Southern State Parkway in West Hempstead around 11:45 p.m.
