The Justice Department unsealed an indictment charging Aleksandr Ryzhenkov with ransomware attacks against North Texas businesses, but it’s unclear if Ryzhenkov will ever be held accountable for the attacks.

Russian national Aleksandr Viktorovich Ryzhenkov has been indicted for engaging in ransomware attacks against US companies, including encryption demands, starting in June 2017.

Ryzhenkov’s onslaught began in June 2017, according to the indictment. Over the ensuing four years, Ryzhenkov, the second-in-command of Russian hacking outfit Evil Corp., broke into the computer systems of five American companies, four headquartered in Texas, three in Dallas, according to the news release.
