Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a California bill into law that would increase protections for youth placed in treatment facilities, a measure backed by celebrity Paris Hilton.

The common food dyes — blue 1, blue 2, green 3, red 40, yellow 5 and yellow 6 — have been linked to developmental and behavioral harms in children, according to the California Environmental Protection Agency.

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Saturday afternoon signed a bill that will ban schools from selling Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and other snacks, candy and baked goods that contain synthetic food dye additives.

What you need to know: Governor Newsom signed eight bills into law today to help protect victims of domestic abuse and violence, including by creating a new victims’ services fund maintained by penalties from white-collar crimes and expanding the ability of victims to access restraining orders.

Newsom also signed a handful of bills developed using recommendations from the state’s reparations task force.

The signing comes a month after lawmakers let a pair of bills die that would have created a state reparations agency and a fund for it to use.

Senate Bill 1217 by state Sen. Steven Glazer (D-Orinda) will force pet insurers to provide more transparency regarding their coverage.
