With Delhi and NCR's air quality deteriorating to the 'severe' category, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has swiftly imposed Stage-IV (Severe+) actions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

On Sunday, Delhi experienced a marked increase in its average Air Quality Index (AQI). In the space of a few hours, from 4 PM to 7 PM, the AQI jumped from 441 to 457, an alarming spike confirmed by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Under GRAP Stage 4, there will be a ban on diesel-run medium, heavy goods vehicles registered in Delhi, except those carrying essentials.

The restrictions were announced by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), which also asked the Delhi government to take a call on running of vehicles on an “odd and even” basis, and switching classes 6-9 to online mode.
