More than 2,000 mental health workers at Southern California’s Kaiser Permanente hospital are planning to walk off the job, their union said.

The National Union of Healthcare Workers advised Kaiser Permanente that its that its behavioral health workers will begin an open-ended strike on Oct. 21.

The union that represents nearly 2,400 mental health care workers in Southern California — 316 in San Diego County — filed a strike notice with Kaiser Permanente on Friday, putting their employer on notice that they intend to launch an “indefinite” strike starting on Oct. 21.

The coalition of labor unions representing Kaiser Permanente health care workers has reached a tentative agreement with the company.

Kaiser Permanente Washington health care workers "overwhelmingly voted" to authorize a strike unless a new contract can be negotiated by October 31.
