Long before the outer bands of Hurricane Milton lashed the Florida coast, a political battle over the massive storm was already raging.

Hurricane Milton is threatening to overshadow presidential campaigning as it menaces Florida. The storm has already scrambled Donald Trump's schedule. He put off a virtual event Tuesday night focused on health care and postponed a Univision town hall in Miami.

Almost 12 hours after making landfall, Hurricane Milton was in the Atlantic, still as a hurricane. Milton brought with it tornadoes, storm surge and heavy rain after making landfall near Siesta Key Wednesday evening.

Milton made landfall as a Category 3 hurricane along Florida’s west-central coast Oct. 9, bringing heavy rain and strong winds.
