Trooper Thomas Mascia, who claimed he was shot while assisting a stranded driver, is now suspended without pay, with his badge and duty weapons confiscated.

New York State Police say the trooper was shot on the westbound Southern State Parkway in West Hempstead around 11:45 p.m.

An all-out manhunt is underway after a New York State Police trooper was shot by a driver on the Southern State Parkway.

The westbound Southern State Parkway was shut down near Exit 18 as officials investigated. Anyone with information is urged to call New York State Police Troop L at (631) 756-3300.
