Israel launched a rare airstrike on the center of the Lebanese capital Beirut on Sunday, targeting the headquarters of the pro-Hezbollah Baath party.

The attack came as Israel’s military has been pounding an area just outside the Lebanese capital with some of the heaviest waves of bombardment in months.

In southern Lebanon, Israeli fighter jets carried out multiple attacks on the town of Jibchit, located in the Nabatieh district. The town was hit seven times, with several homes reportedly destroyed. Local authorities have not yet confirmed the number of casualties, though damage to infrastructure and residential areas has been widespread.
