Fresh Israeli strikes hit Beirut’s southern suburbs Saturday. Lebanon is expected to respond to a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal soon.

The Israeli military pressed on Saturday with its days-long bombing campaign targeting an area near Beirut dominated by Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shiite militia, while in the country’s south, Israeli airstrikes killed two paramedics, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.

Italy on Friday said an unexploded artillery shell hit the base of the Italian contingent in the U.N. peacekeeping mission in Lebanon and Israel promised to investigate. Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani spoke with Israeli counterpart Gideon Saar and protested Israeli attacks against its personnel and infrastructure in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon,

The Israeli military on Saturday kept up its fierce bombardment of Lebanon, including Beirut's southern suburbs and the port city of Tyre, with two paramedics among those killed, as attacks continued to rage across much of the devastated Gaza Strip.
